Comerford d'Aunou History by John Comerford d'Aunou
The history presented here is that of the Comerford family or more correctly of the Comerford d'Aunou family or clan since the family name was originally d'Aunou from our founding father Baron Fulco d'Aunou, born France 1004. The name for some centuries was also de Quemerford taken from the Wiltshire village of Quemerford  near Calne where the family resided from the time of the Conquest, 1066, and for the next 300 years. It is noted though that the Irish branch was established in 1185 by Henry de Quemerford d'Aunou. These details have been mentioned in this introduction as there is often confusion over the name form.
In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. The Comerford d'Aunou family is so scsttered. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart. Another basic goal is to allow family members to know something ofthe origins of the family.

The information presented here was gathered over a period of more than thirty years. Many people both in Europe and the New World gave generous help in the research and the material is a testament to them. Mostly the research was undertaken in France, England and Ireland from where the family originated. In France special thanks goes to Baron Maurice de Saint Ledger and in Ireland to several cousins of the writer including Father patrick Comerford and Miss Kathleen Comerford both of Mooncoin, County Kilkenny and Mr Noel Butler of Mullinavat, County Kilkenny. From America the late Mr Barney Comerford, a wonderful man and the author of "A Demographic History of the Comerford Family". There were many others too numerous to name.

At the same time it is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.
